Saga University Student Exchange Program Spring 2026

Saga University, Japan, is offering an exciting student exchange opportunity for ITS students for the Spring 2026 intake (April – August 2026). The tuition fee is waived, but students are responsible for personal expenses, including learning materials, registration fees, dormitory costs, living expenses, round-trip flight tickets, travel insurance, and any necessary quarantine measures. Students must also check Japan’s entry regulations before departure.

Program Overview

Saga University offers various exchange programs under the SPACE Program:

  • SPACE-SAGA – Courses in English (Undergraduate)
  • SPACE-ECON – Courses in Japanese (Economics, Undergraduate)
  • SPACE-SE-B – Courses in English (Science and Engineering, Undergraduate)
  • SPACE-SE-G – Research-oriented program in English (Science and Engineering, Graduate)
  • SPACE-AG – Courses in English (Agriculture, Undergraduate)
  • SPACE-ARITA – Courses in English (Ceramic Production, Undergraduate – Limited Partner Universities)
  • General Exchange Student – Courses in Japanese (Undergraduate and Graduate)
  • Special Research Student – Research under a supervisor (Graduate, requires prior approval from a Saga University professor)

Eligibility Criteria

  • Undergraduate (S1) Students:
    • SPACE-SAGA/ECON/General Exchange: Batch 2023
    • SPACE-SE/ARITA/AG: Batch 2022
  • Graduate (S2) Students: Must have completed at least one semester
  • Minimum GPA: 2.9 (out of 4.0)
  • English or Japanese Proficiency:
    • For SPACE-SAGA/SE/ARITA/AG: TOEFL ITP 530, IELTS 5.5, TOEFL iBT 72, TOEIC 740
    • For SPACE-ECON/General Exchange (Undergraduate): JLPT N2 or higher
    • For General Exchange (Graduate): JLPT N1
  • ITS Course Transfer Requirement: Minimum of 10 SKS

Application Requirements

  1. Completed Application Form (SPACE-E or SPACE-SE)
  2. Official University Transcript (English version)
  3. Certificate of Enrollment
  4. Passport Copy (valid for at least one year)
  5. One English or Japanese Proficiency Test Score – as mentioned above
  6. Recommendation Letter from an academic advisor

  8. Learning Agreement signed by Head of Department (Download: bit.ly/its-student-exchange)
  9. Certificate of Health
  10. Application for Certificate of Eligibility (CoE) (Excel format) Download EXCEL here Example (please read carefully)
  11. Certificate of GCW Non-Degree (minimum grade C) or GCW Test Score (minimum 80)
  12. Parental Statement Letter (confirming financial and emotional support, in Bahasa, no specific format)

Accommodation and Living Costs

  • University Dormitory: 11,000 yen/month (furnished, with kitchen, bathroom, and WiFi)
    • Initial cleaning fee: 14,000 yen (one-time payment upon arrival)
  • Estimated Monthly Expenses: 60,000–80,000 yen
    • Food: 15,000–20,000 yen
    • Utilities: 6,000–10,000 yen
    • Internet and phone: 3,000–5,000 yen
    • Other personal expenses: 10,000 yen
  • Health Insurance (Mandatory):
    • National Health Insurance: ~2,000 yen/month
    • Comprehensive Insurance for Students: ~2,500 yen (6 months) or ~3,000 yen (1 year)
