Allan and Nesta Ferguson Charitable Trust Masters Scholarships

Allan and Nesta Ferguson Charitable Trust Masters Scholarships, The University of Sheffield, UK is delighted to offer 3 Allan and Nesta Ferguson Charitable Trust masters scholarships for eligible overseas fee-paying students starting their studies in September 2025.

The University of Sheffield is committed to international development. A key focus of its strategy is to celebrate, promote and expand its efforts to improve lives through global partnerships, both locally and internationally.

Continuing this commitment, the University of Sheffield has collaborated with Allan and Nesta Ferguson Charitable Trust and the Sheffield Institute for International Development to provide scholarships to international students hailing from developing countries, including India, for various courses that are affiliated with the Sheffield Institute for International Development.

There are three scholarships for academically outstanding students from developing countries. Each scholarship will offer the following benefits:

a. Fee Waiver of the full tuition fee

b. A maintenance stipend of £12,500

Eligibility Criteria for 2025

1. To be eligible to apply, applicants must hold an offer for one of the following courses to study at the University of Sheffield in the 2025-26 academic year:

• International Development MA

• Environmental Change and International Development MSc

• International Development (Masters in Public Health) MPH

• International Law and Global Justice LLM (a selected pathway of the Sheffield LLM course)

• International Political Economy MA

• Global Journalism MA

• International Public and Political Communication MA

2. The applicant must be classified as an overseas student for tuition fee purposes.

3. Applicants must not already hold a qualification equivalent to or higher than the course they are applying for.

4. Applicants must not have previously studied outside their country of residence.

5. Applicants must be self-funded, meaning they should not be receiving financial support from a research council, government, private enterprise, charity, or any similar organization.

6. This scholarship cannot be combined with any other funding awards, whether from the University of Sheffield or external sources.

7. Applicants must be enrolled in a full-time program.

8. Applicants must commence their studies at the University of Sheffield in 2025. This scholarship cannot be deferred.

9. The scholarship is contingent upon meeting any conditions attached to the offer by the deadline set by the Admissions Service.

10. The scholarship is subject to the successful receipt of a visa to study at the University in September 2025.

11. Applicants must be nationals of, or permanently domiciled in, India or one of the eligible countries or territories classified as low- or lower-middle-income by the World Bank in 2025.

How to Apply Online?

To access the application form, applicants must have received an offer for one of the postgraduate courses listed above, starting at the University in September 2025. Please note that it may take up to 24 hours after receiving an offer for the application form to become accessible.

Application Deadline: 1:00 PM (UK time) on Monday, 2 June 2025.

All eligible applicants who apply before the deadline will be notified of their application outcome by Friday, 18 July 2025.

Selection Process

The selection process will be a competitive one. A panel of senior members will be assigned to review the applications and not all applications will be accepted. Candidates should keep the following points in mind to maximize their chances of having their applications approved.

1. Provide a clear reason behind your interest in pursuing a masters from University of Sheffield.

2. Provide a detailed overview of your work experience related to International Development, including specific examples.

3. Clearly share your future ambitions, and goals related to your post-graduation and how your education can contribute to the lives of others.
