Champlain College closing Ireland and Montreal campuses in 2026

Kate Sulovski and her husband, Pete, are the parents of triplets. The full house they have today they say is thanks in part to a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity a decade ago, when the happy couple were mere strangers and still in school. As an undergrad at Champlain College, Kate decided to take a semester abroad in Dublin, Ireland, which led to their chance meeting.”He was roommates with all these people that I formed really strong relationships with in Ireland. We came back, and as cliché as it sounds, the rest is history,” said Sulovski. It’s a destination incoming classes of beavers will not be able to visit after the school announced their Dublin campus will be closing next year. The same fate for Champlain’s campus north of the U.S.-Canada border in Montreal.”I was a student ambassador at Champlain,” said Evan Gartner, class of 2025. “I talked about the Montreal program to sell it to students and their families. The fact that I told them something that they can’t get now is saddening.”The announcement is taking former students by surprise, like Carson Griffin, who graduated in 2025. Thanks to the program in Montreal, he has a game design degree.”It’s where I learned to be a great producer, where my friends learned to be a great designer, programmer, artist. It’s sad that that opportunity for students is no longer there,” said Griffin. The news has recent graduates reaching out to one another to reminisce and catch up.”We all sent it to our group chat, and we were talking about it,” said Jada Biggs, class of 2024. “It was such a breathtaking experience for all of us. Pivotal in a positive way for a lot of us.”Champlain College said a new partnership with Temple University will broaden study abroad opportunities, providing students with access to semester-long programs in Japan, Italy, and Spain. When asked about the campus closures, the college declined an interview and sent a statement instead, saying in part:Their legacy will continue through the expanded international opportunities Champlain students now have access to via Temple.”International experience is really important and special. If you can have the opportunity, definitely take it, no matter where it is,” said Biggs.Champlain will conclude operations at its Montreal and Dublin campuses on June 30 of 2026.
